　「国際原子力機関のメンバーが汚染水流出に苛立ちを表明」

　9月27日ジャパンタイムズ紙の一面の記事の見出しである。membersと複数形になっているので、数人の委員がこのところの貯蔵タンクからの高濃度汚染水流出や日量300tもの汚染地下水の太平洋への流出に苛立ちを表明している。
　問題を起こしているのは350あるフランジタイプの継ぎ目のある貯蔵タンクである。このタンクは鋼板をボルトでつなぎ合わせつなぎ目にゴム・パッキンをはさんだ構造のもので、溶接タイプに比べて強度が弱い。地元の施工業者によると耐用年数は2年ほどの安物。東電は資金不足で貯蔵タンク建造費用をけちっている節のあることは前回の記事で問題になっていた。

　汚染水漏洩問題は今年の夏まで問題として現れてこなかったが、当初から存在したものだと(3)で指摘している。

　さて、問題は(4)のアンダーラインを引いた部分である。ここが辞書ナシで意味をつかめたかどうかで、「長文（?）」読解の力が判定できるから、チャレンジしてほしい。あとで、本文に追記するかコメント欄に答えを書くことにしたい。
　この文が辞書ナシで読めるレベルなら、センター試験の長文はケアレスミス以外のミスはないだろう。

　前もって文法的なことを言うと、高校1年生はまもなく習うところだ。予習をかねて『アトラス』を引いてみたらいい。2年生が使っている文法書は『フォレスト』だったかな。
　スロバニア代表の委員がなんといっているのか、これがスロバニア代表だけの意見ではないことに注目すべきだ。

　内閣府特命大臣科学技術政策担当山本一太が会議で何を強調し、それに対してどのような反論がなされているのかは(5)と（6）を読んでほしい。

　英文科の大学生も文学作品ばかりでなく、さまざまな分野のテクストを読んでおいたほうがいい。社会に出てから武器となるのは、英会話でもなければ文学作品の読解力でもないのだから。

　たとえば、「村上春樹の小説を読みました」なんて就職面接でアッピールしても面接者の反応はない、一般の民間企業でそういう能力を要求する企業はないからだ。仕事の関係するさまざまな専門分野の文献がきちんと読めるかどうかは大事なキーだ。

(1)  VIENNA – Japan is coming under fire from other members of the International Atomic Energy Agency for its slow response to the radioactive water leaks at the stricken Fukushima No. 1 nuclear complex.

(2)  At a briefing Tuesday about the leaks on the fringes of an ongoing IAEA general meeting, Japanese representatives explained the steps being taken to deal with tainted water and the progress they were making with decontamination at the plant after the three core meltdowns.

(3)  The problem of the radioactive water “did not emerge this summer,” a Slovenian representative said, “it was there from the beginning.”

(4)  The Slovenian representative asked why Japan has been dragging its feet for two years and stressed that Tokyo should have sought out a solution that would spare the environment right from the beginning of the crisis in spring 2011.

Hirosukeさんがカタチの解説をきれいにやってくれたので、あとは意味理解ですね。
案外曲者なのがspareです。

意味が辞書ナシでわかった人は全国模試で偏差値70あるでしょうね。理由はあとで・・・
